Dream Catcher

A Native American legend tells us that all dreams are caught in the dream catcher. Bad dreams are held by the web until destroyed by the first rays of the sun. Good dreams find their way to the hoop, where they enter the life of the dreamer. Most plains tribes had a version of the dream catcher, and they were hung over sleeping children.

All tribes in the southwest make and use fetishes, however, the Zuni are the most skilled carvers.

Fetishes are used to assist man in his daily struggle for life. The belief is that each fetish contains a living power, and will aid in hunting, curing diseases, war, gambling, propagation, witchcraft (and protection against and detection of witchcraft.)
